S.M.Gordon & Associates was started back in 1990 originally on a single product, DBTrend/3000.  This product is designed to do predictive analysis on data set capacities, and to give trending information.  The idea at the time was that I had over 100 databases to manage at this client site, and we had very little down time to play with, so if we knew that a set was a problem now, and we could find out if anything else was going to be a problem in the next week, then this would allow us to maximize that down time.

Our next product was JobTrak/3000, and as with most of the SMGA line of products, JobTrak was developed out of necessity.  I had come into a client site that had an out of control batch job situation, where you would see jobs streaming other jobs up to 8 levels deep.  So JobTrak was designed to scan through those job streams and be able to give you a graphical view of the nested heirarchy of job streams.  Another benefit of JobTrak is that it was designed to allow you to keep run history statistics for jobs, and it turns out that that is the most popular feature of the product.

The products started coming fast and furious after that.  We are a loose group of individuals (the Associates part) that work together on and off.  Sometimes doing contracting, such as work I did for Unison and Orbit Software, other times training, and many times giving instruction or writing papers.  We are always looking for something new to do, and TimeWarp/3000 is our newest tool.  As you have probably heard, TimeWarp is a virtual date/time utility that allows you to have any different process on your system running in a different date and time.  Perfect for year 2000 testing, as well as more mundane tasks like month end, quarter end, year end testing, as well as date specific testing, like "If I run this on Friday, and Monday is a bank holiday, what will happen".

We love the HP 3000, and hope to stay on it forever, so far we are at 14+ years and counting.  If you have a need, or an idea, let us know at feedback@smga3000.com, we would love to hear from you.
